Why School of Ballet Arts !

To impact and improve the lives of people through the art of dance.

To build a world-class school that provides exceptional and innovative training while working with professional dancers.

  • The School of Ballet Arts’ success is the result of the vision of its director, Deborah Marquez coupled with her renowned world class faculty, who inspire, develop and instill a love of dance in every student and every age group. Excellence in ballet training is critical, but as arts educators, we believe it is crucial to our mission, that we go well beyond technique. It is our philosophy that we support the development of the whole student with individualized attention in a nurturing educational environment, integrating it into our curriculum that includes performance opportunities. The depth of the education we provide, coupled with faculty expertise and support, and association with our very successful performing arts company, Ballet Arts Dance Company, we are uniquely positioned to offer unparalleled ballet training and dance education programs of exceptional quality, to a wide range of students.

  • Ballet is the only dance technique that includes all art expressions in one discipline: music, theatre, painting, dance and even fantasy are present each time a dancer rehearses or performs. That is why ballet has been the personal choice and long-time passion of my life.  During my entire career, dance has been my main goal. When the ballet company where I performed for seven years, here in the USA, closed, I chose to take a new step in my life-long profession and decided to teach and pass on my vast experience and knowledge to others. Teaching this magnificent discipline allows me to contribute to our society.
  • Ballet benefits children physically and psychologically. It requires concentration to control the body’s movement as it strengthens muscles, develops flexibility, coordination, and dance musicality.  Through ballet, we can express our feelings and emotions, reduce stress and channel the adrenaline, keeping children in vigorous physical activity.  It may even reduce the child’s addiction to electronic games. In our nurtured environment, ballet is an excellent tool to overcome shyness and build new relationships. Our students learn about motivation, perseverance and constancy. They learn how to work independently and as part of a team and the importance of their own strengths and commitments. All these qualities gained in our classes, and from presentations, and our performances will benefit all students in every-day life and their future.
  • I know that with my knowledge and personal experience, I will promote the interest and appreciation of ballet in children, teens and adults, and to our community. At the same time, we will contribute to form better human beings.
  • Between my exceptional staff and an incredible curriculum, our students excel. Our instruction is based in the methodology developed by the Escuela Cubana de Ballet (The Cuban Ballet School), fused with other techniques and styles, that always emphasizes proper technique.  This combination results with School of Ballet Arts achieving its own special identity.
  • Our students train and understand that his/her body is a precious working instrument, and the main way to express oneself. They approach their classes with passion and a true sense of discipline.  Students have many performance opportunities in professional-style productions, as well as performing throughout the community. Performing is a very important part of a student’s training.  School of Ballet Arts has tremendous results as our former students are now dancing in major American Dance Companies, accepted to renowned college dance programs, or becoming successful in other pursuits, coupled with their continual love of dance.
  • PREPARATION FOR AUDITIONS  School of Ballet Arts prepares its students for auditions such as entrance into Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts and BAK Middle School for the Arts. The School of Ballet Arts can also help prepare students for college auditions, as well as auditions for dance companies!
  • "You have to love dancing to stick to it. It gives you nothing back, no manuscripts to store away, no paintings to show on walls and maybe hang in museums, no poems to be printed and sold, nothing but that single fleeting moment when you feel alive. It is not for unsteady souls."

Merce Cunningham
